ETA 7001: Why We Use This Classic Movement in the Radiance
At the heart of every mechanical watch lies its movement. It determines not only how the watch functions, but also its proportions, its thickness, and how it feels on the wrist.
For the HEINRICH Radiance, we chose the ETA 7001. This Swiss manual-winding movement is known for its exceptionally slim design and combines a long tradition of watchmaking with the proportions we were looking for in the Radiance.
What is the ETA 7001?
The ETA 7001 is a Swiss mechanical hand-wound movement that traces its origins to the Peseux 7001. The movement was developed in the 1970s and remains one of the best-known thin mechanical watch movements to this day.
With a height of just 2.5 mm, the ETA 7001 is exceptionally compact. It has a diameter of 23.3 mm, 17 jewels, and operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Its functions include hours, minutes, and a small seconds hand at 6 o'clock.
In the Radiance, we use the ETA 7001 Top Grade. The movement is regulated in four positions and finished with details such as Côtes de Genève and blued screws.
The power reserve of the ETA 7001 ranges from about 42 to 45 hours, depending on the model. For the Radiance, we specify a power reserve of about 42 hours.
Why does the Radiance use the ETA 7001?
There are two main reasons for choosing the ETA 7001: its height and its history.
The Radiance is designed as an exceptionally slim mechanical watch. Its case is just 8 mm thick. With a height of 2.5 mm, the ETA 7001 provides the technical foundation for these proportions.
At the same time, the ETA 7001 also fits in historically with HEINRICH's design language.
Our watches draw inspiration from 1970s watch design. Distinctive proportions, geometric dials, and slim mechanical watches define this era. The Peseux 7001 was also developed in the 1970s and thus belongs to the very generation of mechanical movements that defined that era.
That is why the ETA 7001 is more than just a technical solution to us. Its history is directly linked to the era from which we draw inspiration for our designs.
This combination embodies the HEINRICH philosophy: drawing on historical design concepts and reinterpreting them using modern manufacturing techniques and contemporary proportions.
Why choose an ETA 7001 hand-winding movement?
The ETA 7001 is a manual-winding movement. Unlike an automatic movement, it does not have a rotor, which would require additional space in the case.
This contributes to the Radiance's slim design and makes it possible to achieve a case height of just 8 mm.
But for us, the manual winding mechanism is not just a technical decision. Winding the watch every day is part of the experience of owning a mechanical watch.
Turning the crown, feeling the resistance of the spring as it winds, and thereby powering the watch creates a direct connection between the wearer and the movement.
Especially in a watch with a vintage-inspired design, this traditional element fits perfectly into the overall concept.
ETA 7001 and the Radiance Design
The ETA 7001 movement forms the mechanical foundation of the Radiance and is thus a perfect match for its design.
The Radiance combines the design language of the 1970s with modern manufacturing techniques. This is particularly evident in our guilloché dials.
The Radiance Guilloche Swirl combines the slim hand-wound movement with a precisely crafted, spiral-shaped guilloché pattern.

The Radiance Guilloche Wave features a surface adorned with flowing wavy lines, creating a dynamic interplay of light and reflection.

The Standard Radiance features a sector-style dial design and a design language inspired by historic watches.

All three models are based on the same ETA 7001 Top Grade manual-winding movement.

Why the ETA 7001 is a good match for the Radiance
For us, the ETA 7001 combines three characteristics that are crucial to the Radiance: a flat design, a heritage of mechanical watchmaking, and a historical connection.
Measuring just 2.5 mm thick, the movement makes the 8-mm-high Radiance possible. As a hand-wound movement, it preserves the direct and authentic character of a mechanical watch. And its history, which dates back to the Peseux 7001 of the 1970s, connects the movement to the era that inspires our designs.
But in the end, it’s about more than just technical specifications and proportions. A mechanical movement gives a watch its own character. The daily winding, the interplay of the gears and springs, and the visible mechanics bring the Radiance to life. For us, the ETA 7001 is what gives the Radiance its soul.
