How do you capture the essence of American football in a mechanical watch without simply printing football symbols on the dial? By starting with the real material. For the Football Leather Edition, genuine Horween football leather becomes an integral part of the watch itself. It forms the dial and continues onto the matching leather strap. The distinctive grain, natural texture, and subtle variations in the leather give each watch its own unique character. No printed pattern. No mere nod to a football.
But rather the actual game content.

Horween has been crafting leather in Chicago since 1905. Among the special materials produced by this time-honored tannery is the distinctive leather used for American footballs—unmistakable for its pronounced grain and unique texture. For HEINRICH, it was precisely this authenticity that was crucial. We didn’t want to simply imitate the look of a football. We wanted to incorporate the real material into the watch.
Working with organic material on this scale presents unique challenges. No two pieces of leather are exactly alike. Their grain, structure, and texture vary naturally. That is why every dial is slightly different.
And that's exactly how it should be.

For the story behind the Football Leather Edition, we wanted someone by our side whose connection to American football didn’t need to be staged. In Marlin Klein, we found exactly that connection. His journey took him from Germany across thousands of kilometers into the world of American football—an environment where talent alone isn’t enough. HEINRICH took a completely different path: from the idea of a watch enthusiast in Stuttgart to building an independent German watch brand. Two different worlds. And yet a similar mindset: forging your own path—even if it isn’t the easiest one; pressing on when the going gets tough; and pursuing something out of your own conviction. For the Football Leather Edition, these two German stories came together in Houston.

This watch wasn't meant to merely pay homage to football from a distance. That's why we brought it closer to the game. Together with Marlin Klein, we created the campaign for the Football Leather Edition in Houston—where the material on the wrist connects with its original world.
Not as football merchandise.
Not as a signature watch.
Rather, as a mechanical HEINRICH with an authentic connection to American football.
THE ATTITUDE
The words on the case back have a genuine connection to the history of American football. “Never Die Easy” is closely associated with the legendary running back Walter Payton, who credited his coach at Jackson State, Bob Hill, with coining the phrase. For Payton, it was more than just a catchphrase. On the field, he was known for never simply running out of bounds to avoid a tackle. When he was stopped, his opponent had to earn that stop. Over time, the words became a symbol of determination, resilience, and the will not to take the easy way out. It’s an attitude that also suits this watch. Building an independent watch brand isn’t the easy way out. Nor is developing the dial of a mechanical watch from genuine football leather.
Sometimes that's exactly the point.
THE DETAILS
The first thing that catches the eye is the football-leather strap. Beneath it lies a mechanical watch, designed with the same attention to proportions, craftsmanship, and details as every HEINRICH timepiece.
Genuine Horween football leather forms the visible surface of the dial. Due to its natural grain, each dial is slightly different.
The story of the materials continues at the wrist: The matching strap is also made of genuine Horween Football leather.
Working with leather on a watch face requires precision. Each piece is carefully selected and incorporated into the design.
Developed in Stuttgart and assembled in Pforzheim—the Football Leather Edition remains, above all, one thing: a mechanical HEINRICH.
Organic football leather meets sapphire crystal and precision-machined stainless steel—a deliberate contrast between tactile feel and technology.
Each Football Leather Edition bears its own unique number and is therefore part of a strictly limited series.
